We have our first “puzzler” of the year this week. One often encounters insects (or evidence of insects) in unexpected places. Ruth and I recently visited Black Band Distillery in Peoria, IL. While waiting for our meal to arrive, I noted the tabletop and observed all these small holes in the wood. Yes, I knew what made the holes. Do you? That is our puzzler for this week. First one to comment gains braging rights (maybe even a small prize when they show up to one of our in person meetings/ field trips). Be the first to comment as to what made the holes (Order and Family is sufficient; common name is also acceptable).

This same puzzler will be found in our Facebook group. Feel free to leave a comment in either spot (the first one to correctly identify the insect gains bragging rights).

Small holes in oak table top at restaurant. Do you know what made these holes?
